The reason why we all need insurance is simple. It’s for our own protection. Some people would say they won’t use it anyway, so why pay for something that you wouldn’t use? It’s going to be a waste of money.

Until something unexpected happens that’s the time you’d realize that you do need insurance. It’s too late. Damage has been done. What’s worse is, your out of pocket would be so big that it would ruin your budget more so, might wipe up your entire savings. For that reason alone, you might want to continue reading as to why you would need Prepaid Insurance and what benefits will you get out of it.

If you haven’t heard of prepaid insurance before, it’s very similar to having regular insurance. The main difference, as many would agree is the amount that a member pays to be covered. A prepaid legal insurance service plan provides consumers with some legal services at no cost, some on reduced rates by just paying the monthly premium, membership fee or other add on charges. When you avail of prepaid legal insurance service, you get to have access to a wide range of legal services at set costs.

Prepaid legal insurance generally provide free unlimited phone consultations, document or will reviews and reasonable discounts on legal services, written fee agreements and grievance procedures. There are thousands of prepaid legal companies offering several types of plans, which offer different amounts of legal services at adjustable costs, to be able to meet a specific income need.

Prepaid legal service insurance is a very good alternative to hiring a lawyer for many people or companies. If we were to avail of this prepaid legal insurance, what do we get out of it? Here are some of the benefits of having prepaid legal insurance. It is cost effective, simple, and pre-empts the law.

Because most lawyers’ fees except pro-bono are too expensive for most people, prepaid legal insurance service can take the burden out of hiring a lawyer. Lawyers’ fees are most of the time too expensive for most people. Your bill can run into thousands of dollars and this is simply not affordable for most common working and middle class families. Having prepaid legal insurance plans, it’s similar to paying your health or home insurance. It can start as low as $9 per month and won’t exceed the $30 benchmark.

There are a lot of fees very complicated to the common ear that lawyers charge. Contingency fees, statutory fees, flat fees and hourly rates make up what the lawyers usually charge you with. You have to get into the sophisticated details on how these fees are computed, like for example, how much is lawyer’s commission on contingency fees? How about their regulatory nature? Who regulates the statutory fees and how do you know that these fees are in line with regulatory guidelines?

There are other types of fees that can be as confusing as the two mentioned earlier. Lawyers would tend to incorporate all the overheads they incur, like secretary’s salaries, parking expenses and other travel fees into their flat and hourly rates. They would also set a minimum number of billing units, like three tenths of an hour or 18 minutes, regardless of how long they will be able to solve your problem. This is just an example of what influences the lawyers as they charge various fees.

They also consider different factors and other ar [removed][removed] rangements that apply. On the other hand, prepaid legal insurance service is much more straightforward and simple. You will sign an agreement to pay a fixed monthly fee or premium and that’s it. If the service that you need is not covered under the list of services, just like ordering ala carte from the menu, you get to pay a little extra for that particular service. Provided you will be given a separate billing so that you know exactly how much you will be charged.

Prepaid legal insurance service offers unlimited phone consultation and advice. The purpose of this service is to save you money, time and trouble in the future. Most legal problems that you face daily can be solved if you take the right steps in line with the law. With the sound advice and consultation with your lawyer, you can expose legal blunders before they even occur and would minimize the risk of court prosecution or proceedings.

There’s some companies that offer prepaid legal insurance as part of their fringe benefits to their employees. This is called pre-paid group insurance. It is a low cost service and easily administered and has a high perceived value for the employees. The first benefit employers will expect from prepaid legal insurance plans is efficiency and increase in production. Most employees today are interested in a variety of benefits to balance their work with their lifestyle.

Given that most American household had issues with the law might have led them to hire a lawyer, then it’s only normal that a legal benefit would increase the employees’ morale and work efficiency. Because of this benefit, employers can retain the best employees and hire better ones. In these times, most employment candidates base their career choices on the set of benefit package provided by the employers.

Cost containment is also considered as a benefit. With less time and money to be used for personal matters, the company expects to make significant savings on administrative costs.

On a nutshell, having prepaid legal insurance plans look like an excellent solution to face the majority of your company’s legal concerns.

I have been diagnosed with mesothelioma. Should I see a solicitor?

Yes, if at all possible, as medical experts estimate that approximately 95% of all mesothelioma cases are caused by exposure to asbestos (usually in the workplace) and, more often than not, someone else (be it an employer, factory owner, or asbestos manufacturer) is to blame. Often people say” but, no one knew of the risks in those days; it was so long ago”, and put off the idea of taking legal advice, assuming nothing can be done. In actual fact, more often than not, there is a legal remedy, even if an employer has apparently ceased to exist. Therefore, it is unsafe to assume that no legal action can be taken.

-Do I need to see a solicitor right away?

Depending on the treatment you are receiving and how you are feeling, it is wise to take legal advice as soon as you possibly can as there are time limits for all personal injury claims. As a general rule a court action(“proceedings”) must be started within 3 years of the diagnosis (or from the time you first suspected that you are suffering from an asbestos related disease). Although the Court has a discretion to set aside the 3 year”limitation period” (as it is called), technically your claim would be time barred if you did not issue proceedings within the 3 years. In any event, given the poor prognosis, most people do not want to delay taking legal action. Since the civil justice system was reformed in 1999, claims do not tend to take as long as they did, but it is still possible to have a claim “expedited”, if the medical evidence suggests that someone’s life expectancy is very limited.

-Can I seek the services of any solicitor?

Most solicitors now tend to specialise; the days of the “general practitioner”are numbered. Even so, regrettably, some solicitors who are not experienced in this particular field do take on mesothelioma claims and that can have unfortunate consequences, especially as most employers’ liability insurance companies (on the other side) instruct specialist firms to defend such claims. In that situation, it would not be a level playing field. Therefore, it is always sensible to seek out a solicitor who specialises in asbestos related disease litigation. Before instructing a solicitor, it is always worth asking about his/her qualifications and track record. For example, are they members of the Law Society’s Personal Injury Panel and/or the College of Personal Injury Law (CPIL). How many asbestos related disease cases have they successfully concluded within the last 3 years? Is the person you are dealing with a qualified solicitor?

-How much will it cost me ?

Although Legal Aid is now rarely available for personal injury claims, the 3 main funding options are:
• Conditional Fee (“no win: no fee”) Agreement {contigency arrangement}
• Trade Union funding
• Legal expenses insurance
As a consequence of changes introduced by the Access to Justice Act 2000, pursuing a personal injury compensation claim should not cost you a lot of money. Most (good) solicitors offer a free initial interview, even if a home visit is required (as is often the case). The solicitor should then discuss the various funding options at the outset, before any claim is intimated. If you are in a trade union/professional association, or have legal expenses insurance cover, then you may not have anything to pay, subject to the terms of the union agreement, or legal expenses insurance policy.
If your solicitor is prepared to take the case on a “no win: no fee” basis, then you may have to pay a one off insurance premium (which is recoverable in the event of a successful claim). However, the insurance cover will protect you against the risk of having to pay the other side’s costs in the event that the claim is lost or discontinued (provided court proceedings have been started). If you are successful, then the opposing party/insurance company will pay the claimant’s basic legal costs and also a “success fee” in addition.
Following the introduction of the new rules, relating to costs, claimants are now in a much better position than they were and you may not have to pay anything at all if the solicitor operates a “no cost to you” policy. However, be aware that some firms/organizations offering “no cost” policies/deals may not necessarily have the relevant expertise, as they mainly deal with “fast track” (low value) personal injury claims. Industrial disease claims are complex and require skillful handling. [*This is the lawyers reward for taking the case on and facing the possibility that he/she will not be paid anything at all if the case is lost]

-I have not received a definitive diagnosis, but I have been told that I probably have mesothelioma, should I seek the services of an attorney even though the diagnosis is not 100% confirmed?

This cancer is a very difficult disease to diagnose accurately as most of its usual symptoms also occur in a lot of other common lung and abdominal diseases. Doctors are sometimes not 100% certain even when they have a strong clinical diagnosis. Legal claims for damages can be proven on the balance of probabilities {that is more likely than not}, so if there is a strong probability medically that you have mesothelioma, you should seek the services of a solicitor who will investigate your claim. The limitation period in most places start from the time there is a reasonable suspicion of asbestos related disease and not from when a 100% confirmed diagnosis is made, so it very wise to seek for legal representation quickly and your attorney will advise you on the necessary steps to take.

Whether you are running a multinational corporation or a small business operating from a spare bedroom at home, insuring certain aspects of your business is essential. For a number of years an increasing amount of people have been choosing to work from home. With cheaper IT costs, broadband and a greater accessibility over the internet, running a business from home is now an affordable, realistic option. But before you start thinking of converting that shed in the bottom of your garden to a new office, you should seek some professional advice to make sure you cover your business requirements.

Before you start a new venture you need to address the business insurance cover that may be required. These include:

Professional Indemnity

Professional indemnity insurance indemnifies professionals against third parties claims of negligent acts committed in the course of their professional duties. In many businesses such as accountancy or IT consultancy it is a legal requirement to have PI insurance. There are three main areas of PI insurance cover, firstly against a negligent act, error or omission. Secondly cover against a breach of duty and thirdly cover against civil liability, which include breaches of contract, libel or slander.

Employers Liability

Employer’s liability protects a business from any claims made by the employees, for instance claims for accidents in the workplace or sickness caused by the working environment. There are many different types of claims employees can make on their employers, some of the more common include slips, trips or falls, stress and anxiety or an unsafe workplace, for example falling objects. Even if you work alone and you employ someone on a temporary basis, you will be liable for any injuries that they receive.

Public Liability

Public liability insurance protects against claims of a third party due to damage or injury as a result of your businesses activities. The owner or occupier of a business premises is required to provide a level of care for the general public, there are three main degrees of care. Firstly people who by some form are invited onto your premises they are called ‘invitees’. If this ‘invitee’ spends money on a service, your duty of care and your chance of being liable increases, for example if you run a karting centre and one of your customers is hurt due to faulty machinery, you are liable for their injury. Secondly if people enter the premises with the permission of the occupier (called ‘licensees’) but without any economic advantage to the occupier, then the duty of care is less than in the case of ‘invitees’, for example a travelling salesman. Thirdly if there are ‘trespassers’ who enter the business premises without the permission of the occupier, there is still a degree of care owed but it is slight compared to both ‘invitees’ and ‘licensees’. A good example of this is a child who wanders onto a business premises and injures themselves, without necessarily knowing the dangers associated with the building.

There are many other types of insurance that small businesses might look into getting, including,

Equipment Insurance

Equipment insurance covers the damage or loss of equipment within a business, subject to the terms of agreement. For example if a new PC is damaged or dropped and wasn’t covered in the warranty, a good insurance policy would cover the purchase of new equipment.

Buildings and Contents Cover

Buildings and contents cover insurance protects a business’s property from damage, it also covers the fixtures/fittings within the property. Also if you are storing your stock at home, then contents cover will be essential. You could be left heavily indebted if your products or tools are stolen and you risk losing business and income if new tools cannot be purchased.

Legal Expenses insurance

Legal expenses insurance helps protect a business if legal action is taken against the company, for example legal fees and court costs.

Many self employed workers in small businesses rarely consider the implications of being sick or having an accident, leaving them unable to work for long periods of time. Sickness and accident policies cover these eventualities, as well as some longer term policies such as income replacement insurance. It is generally a good idea when shopping around for the best insurance quotes to compare like for like cover, it is a well used tactic to lower cost by lowering cover. So make sure you understand every aspect of what is included under the proposed insurance deal, it will greatly benefit you when you need to make a claim.

It is important to seek specialist advice when looking into insurance and it is important that you request quotes for your specific needs.

Professional Indemnity Insurance

Professional indemnity (PI) insurance protects you against your legal liability for losses suffered by your customers as a result of your negligent advice. Professional Indemnity (PI) is legally required in certain professions, such as law, accountancy & financial services. It is common in other areas such as management and computer consultancy, publishing, engineering and design. If you give any advice which could make you liable, or if you are working in a collaborative arrangement, you should have a suitable professional indemnity policy.Your professional indemnity policy should include retroactive cover, so that you are insured for any claims arising in the next 12 months, but also for your work or decisions back to the date you commenced trading. When you complete your proposal form, you will need to disclose any likelihood of a future claim, as the underwriters will want to protect themselves from taking on any current or known claim exposure.Professional Indemnity (PI) Insurance works on a ‘claim made’ basis, and so when you cease trading, retire or take a permanent job, it is wise to purchase run off cover for at least 12 months after that in case a claim is made against you, after your policy has expired for work done previously.

Employers Liability Insurance

Professional Insurance for Employers LiabilityThe Employers Liability Act 1969 requires all employers, unless they are exempt, to have at least 5 million GBP of employers liability insurance with an approved insurer to protect them against claims from employees for accidents or sickness caused through work. In practice most insurers offer at least 10 mill GBP cover. The law was amended with effect from 28 February 2005 to exempt very small companies that employ only their owner. As a freelance consultant or contractor operating outside IR35, however, you are likely to have a substitution clause in your contracts. Without employers liability insurance, you cannot fulfill this clause without breaking the law, so in practice you ought to have cover. There are no hard and fast rules about who counts as your employee for the purposes of employers liability insurance. People who you many think of as self-employed may be considered as your employees for the purposes of employers liability insurance; what matters is the real relationship with the people who work for you and the degree of control you have over the work they do for you. Even part-time and casual staff may count as your employees.

Public Liability Insurance

Professional Insurance for Public LiabilityPublic liability insurance covers you against accidents to members of the public or damage to property that occurs as a result of your business activities. It also covers any related legal costs.Even if you work from home, you may need public liability cover. If clients visit you there, the policy will cover you if they injure themselves while they are on your premises – it could be something as silly as tripping over a computer cable. If you regularly work off-site, your policy should cover this too.Product Liability Insurance

Professional Insurance for Product LiabilityProduct liability insurance covers you against injury or damage caused by faulty goods. This can be important if you manufacture, repair, install or even retail goods; a small defect could open you up to massive claims. Your policy should guard you against safety claims, manufacturing quality, spoilage and indemnity costs.

Property & Contents Insurance

Professional Insurance for Property & ContentsYou will need to insure your business property, including premises, fixtures and fittings, stock, computers and equipment. If you work from home, you need to check that equipment used for business purposes is still covered by your home contents insurance, or purchase specific business insurance. In response to a growing trend in home working, an increasing number of insurers no offer buildings and contents policies that specifically include cover for business stock and equipment.IR35 & Legal Expenses Insurance

Professional Insurance for IR35 & Legal ExpensesIR35 Insurance pays costs to cover professional fees relating to tax investigations covering;

Income tax self assessment full enquiriesCorporation tax self assessment full and aspect enquiriesEmployer compliance disputes in respect of PAYE, P11D and NICVAT & IR35 disputes, S660A enquiries.

Income Protection Insurance

Professional Insurance for Income ProtectionIncome protection insurance schemes can be used to cover employees in the event of long-term sickness, paying their salaries during the period of incapacity. Executive income protection provides cover for both salary and dividends.

Permanent Health InsuranceProfessional Insurance for Health & MedicalAs a freelancer, you do not the safety net of a permanent employer to pay for sick leave. It is worth investigating permanent health insurance to cover your personal outgoings should you ever be unable to work for long periods, Private medical insurance can make a lot of sense. Quicker treatment times through private care can help you avoid lengthy lay-offs. Some policies pay a lump sum in the event of a critical illness. It is advisable to apply for medical insurance before you experience symptoms of a serious nature.

Other types of freelance professional insuranceBusiness interruption (or consequential loss) insurance compensates you for extra costs incurred and trading profits lost if your business suffers disruption after, say, a fire.Tax loss insurance reimburses the tax, penalty and interest losses arising from an HMRC ruling against you which results in additional tax to be paid, especially in relation to IR35.Legal expenses insurance covers legal costs such as solicitors fees and court costs. Many policies offer legal guidance via a telephone helpline.Key man insurance can make your business less vulnerable to the illness or death of key employees.

Professional Insurance TipsIt can be more cost-effective to buy employers liability, public liability and business equipment insurance as a single package.Professional indemnity insurance premiums will depend on the type of business, your turnover and the number of employees. Don’t underestimate the level of professional indemnity protection you need.Read the small print in any policy documents. Question any clauses that you don’t understand.Be scrupulously honest with your insurance company about information relating to your business and any previous claims.

For many people, owing a holiday home or second home in the United Kingdom, is a dream come true but owning and buying this type of property, does need a little bit more thought and care if you want to make it a success. Often properties are located in rural or coastal areas, a good distance away from the main residence and thus making sure they are in good order, takes a good deal of co ordination.

Firstly, you will need to consider a different type of buildings & contents insurance to protect your property. Most insurance companies in the United Kingdom are not happy covering second homes or holiday homes as they do not like the often prolonged periods of unoccupancy. If you study a standard home insurance policy, you will notice that almost all, will only allow the property to be unoccupied for 30 days at a time. If you breech this 30 day rule, you may find that your cover is severely restricted or indeed you have no cover at all. Specialist insurers of holiday homes & second homes, realise that property they’re asked to cover may be unoccupied for extended periods and deal with this by usually factoring in a higher premium than you would usually expect to pay for a non holiday home property. The extra premium will vary from area to area. They will also factor in an extra premium to take in to account the slightly different form of liability insurance you require to protect you against claims of negligence from renters. Of course, like most insurance companies, they will still be worried about the possibility of claims, especially as result of water peril claims such as burst pipes. In view of this , you may find that they place certain warranties or conditions on your policy, a typical warranty will include either leaving the heating on , or draining down the water systems in the property.

When you purchase your policy, you will soon discover that, the actual perils on offer are very similar to a standard home insurance policy. In fact, there are very few differences. One of the main reasons for this, is that the Council for Mortgage Lenders, insist on a certain range of perils to be included in order to secure a mortgage on the property.

Insurance companies are aware of this and realise, that unless they can comply with the conditions (unless there is an underwriting reason why they cannot), they will not sell many polices. Generally there are three policy sections. Buildings, Contents, Liability Insurance. As with buildings insurance, under the contents section you will find a typical range of perils on offer. Some policies are often extended to include Loss of Metered Water, Trace & Access cover & Emergency Access cover. The cover for your liabilities does vary in the amount of indemnity on offer but in the United Kingdom, a typical amount is now £5,000,000. Many polices are also now being upgraded to include Legal Expenses Insurance.

The premium you will pay for your holiday home insurance, will vary from area to area , based on a number of factors. There are a number of things that you can do, to help reduce the premium, the first is by accepting a larger excess. ( Excess is the first portion of the loss that you are required to pay). Secondly, you could try to search for an insurance company that offers a no claims bonus. This will usually result in a discount being applied each year, in return for not making a claim. Usually, though, the bonus will not increase after five years.

If you are new to car fleet insurance there are important elements that as a beginner it helps to know. You can avail of car fleet insurance depending on the company with three cars or over. There are three levels of cover you can choose from: comprehensive, third party only or third party and theft. Alternatively you will find some good companies who will offer combined car fleet insurance which may suit your circumstances.

What exactly is a car fleet insurance policy? It is a normal motor fleet insurance however the big difference is that there are no other vehicle types mixed in such as trucks, taxis or vans. There are a huge number of companies who have purely car fleets and therefore car fleet insurance policies.

Apart from the choice of cover, within your policy you should also be offered certain extensions to your motor fleet insurance policy which can include: breakdown cover, windscreen cover, courtesy cars and legal expenses insurances. As you get to know more about this type of insurance you will see that there are certain similarities with a private car insurance that when applied in the grander scheme of a fleet become more important.

One of these is the age brackets that the drivers fall into. This is one thing when managing your personal finances but when you have a fair number of company drivers it has bigger implications financially. Therefore as you hire drivers and evaluate your insurance options remember that you will want to really think about who will drive your vehicles as more drivers who are in the higher age bracket the larger the discount you will receive from your fleet insurance company. In other words its money in your pocket. These are some of the common categories for age restrictions.

Any Licensed Driver Over 30 Any Licensed Driver Over 25 Any Licensed Driver Over 21

You will also need to declare the use of the vehicles as well as the age of the drivers.

Haulage Carriage of Own Goods Carriage of hazardous Goods Airport Side Use Extension Private and / or Public Hire Social Domestic & Pleasure use only (SD&P) SD& P and Business Use

The use must be declared honestly as like any insurance it could become null and void in the instance of a claim if there was some detail brushed under the carpet.

If you have cars that are high end or sporty cars, it is well worth your while declaring to your insurance company that you will voluntarily restrict the driving age for these cars. Do not be rushed into anything by any insurance broker, especially if this is a new situation for you or even when you are re-evaluating the insurance costs and policy.

A car fleet insurance policy can cater for all sorts of cars and in the same way as you would treat a respected customer, there are good insurance companies out there that can guide you in the right direction for finding the policy which is most suited to your fleet’s individual needs.

In today’s litigious society, it is important to protect yourself, your assets and business with insurance. Takeaway insurance is a necessary expense, particularly when you own a restaurant, fast food place or other food establishment, especially when it comes to food that people can take with them out of the place or even have delivered to their home.

Definition

Takeaway insurance is a type of insurance policy for business owners who own a takeaway business. What this means is if you own an establishment that sells food which can be taken off the premises to be consumed, you need this type of insurance protection.

Choosing the Insurance

There is no one-size fits all type of takeaway insurance, therefore you have to be thorough when reviewing quotes for the coverage. Not all policies cover the same thing. You want an all-encompassing insurance policy for your takeaway business which covers many aspects such as liability insurance, insurance on the contents of your establishment, and insurance for goods portability and transportation.

In addition, you want your insurance to cover all the equipment from deep fryers and microwaves to deep freezers and stoves. Other appliances, fixtures, and equipment such as cash registers and computers should also be covered. The takeaway insurance should include protection against fire, flooding, theft, vandalism and other acts that can cause damage. Anything that can cause interruption of business resulting in loss of income should be covered in the insurance policy. Employer and public liability should also be considered and added to any policy.

You want the knowledge that you are safely covered and protected in the event that something beyond your control affects your business, whether it is some type of theft or damage or even if food is lost in transit. Customer or employee injury while on the premises of your takeaway business should be an essential part of insurance coverage. You might want to consider adding a few options to your insurance such as legal expenses, insurance on vehicles that provide transportation of your food products and coverage in case someone becomes ill from eating your food.

Where to Purchase Takeaway Insurance

You need to look for an insurance company in your area that caters to local small business insurance. Consider looking to your local Better Business Bureau or Chamber of Commerce for safe and reliable recommendations. For both of these resources, you can feel secure in the knowledge that you are getting well-researched insurance company leads that have earned excellent reputations for their services in your area.

The internet also holds a wealth of information in regards to takeaway insurance for your food business. The best part is you can often compare several different policies, all on one page, based on your search parameters. You can even purchase a policy online so you can get coverage quickly. Just remember to get several insurance quotes from brokers and research the companies that would underwrite the policy. You want a company that has an excellent customer service reputation as well as one that does not have any hidden caveats you may not find out about until you need to file a claim.

Motor trade insurance policies provide clients with complete “Road Risk Insurance” with extra options that will protect against others dangers as well. This is an important type of insurance for MOT test centres, car dealers and other businesses related to the motor industry.

There are various options available when buying a motor trade insurance policy. Two categories include Road Risk, and Combined Policies. Road Risk policies include:

Comprehensive

Third Party only

Third Party Fire

Theft and Liability Insurance

A Combined Policy includes covers for the trader’s equipment and materials too. There are also optional insurance features available such as:

Engineering inspection

Transported goods

Business disruption

It is also possible to further protect yourself by considering Legal Expenses Insurance. The most important thing to keep in mind while buying a policy is the type of protection you want to extend to your vehicles and customers.

Every type of policy will not cover some thing, and it is important to know the extent to which you are covered so as to avoid unforeseen financial losses. If there are any questions, you can always contact the company you bought the policy from for clarifications to avoid possible confusion. Whichever policy is bought, it is important to tell the company of any changes in the number of drivers and address of the policy holder, as these items cause a change in the premium. Also, if the policy holder intends to use a vehicle outside the European Union on business, then they will need to obtain a green card and it has to be found out whether cover will be available in that particular country or not.

While buying an insurance policy in the UK, it is also possible to go through a broker. A broker will give their client advice and guidance as to which is the best insurance policy for their needs. For first time buyers, a broker will also ensure that you have the right type of coverage.

There are a number of companies that offer Motor Trade Insurance, but buyers should try and find one that, while offering great prices, also offers a great product. While this might mean a longer hunt for the perfect Motor Trade Insurance policy, it will mean that you will end up buying the best one for your needs. As there are several companies in the UK offering these policies, it is possible to, because of great competition, obtain an advantage by bargaining with the company you are meeting. Also, some companies offer flexible payment plans to help ease the financial burden of purchasing a policy.

A Motor Trade Insurance policy can be bought from an insurance company in your town, or an online one. It is a good idea, before meeting a company at their offices, to research rates online and find out what various online companies are offering. This will put you in a better position to bargain for the rate that suits you best. For people starting a motor trade business, the first step would be to buy the appropriate policy.

Are you debating whether to go green with your fleet?

The good news is that going green with your fleet can generate savings that will improve your bottom line over time, while earning your business a better reputation.

How will this choice affect your fleet insurance?

Fleet insurance companies consider these hybrid vehicles as equals to their diesel and petrol counterparts.

Therefore your fleet insurance policies will not be affected adversely when you make the decision to help protect the environment.

Tips for Green Fleet Management from Cover4Commercial :

1. Assess your current fleet performance taking into account the mileage, fuel consumption, average mpg both per vehicle and driver, destination and reasons for travel, and the overall costs.

2. Then identify the areas which can be improved -

? Are the vehicles all as efficient as they could be for the specific needs?
? How can mileage be reduced?
? How well maintained is the vehicle?
? Can alternative fuels be used?
? Does your company’s current mileage allowance encourage an increase in mileage claims?
? Would your employees benefit from more driver training?
? What are the CO2 emission levels and Euro standards of the vehicles?

3. After assessing and identifying the areas for improvement, set yourself realistic targets, such as unnecessary business travel and monitoring and reducing fuel consumption.

4. Continue to monitor your performance over time, which will enable you continue to make both financial and environmental savings over time.

Finding the right Motor Fleet Insurance policy for your business can be a challenging task.

Before making any decision look at the following tips as a checklist:

You need to consider early on who will be driving your company’s vehicles. The higher the age restriction means that you can avail of a larger discount from the fleet insurance provider. Some of the options regarding these age restrictions are:

Any Licensed Driver Over 30
Any Licensed Driver Over 25
Any Licensed Driver Over 21

You can choose from three levels of cover, and some companies will facilitate you by allowing to have varied cover, so you could combine a choice of the following types of motor fleet insurance.

Comprehensive
Third Party Fire & Theft
Third Party Only

Another consideration is what type of extensions you may require for your fleet insurance policy such as:

Windscreen cover
Breakdown Cover
Courtesy cars
Legal Expenses Insurance

Naturally like any regular car insurance you will pay more for any sporty cars, so consider an age restriction just for these vehicles.

Of course your fleet insurance broker needs to know the type of use for your motor fleet insurance such as:

Haulage
Carriage of Own Goods
Private and / or Public Hire
Social Domestic & Pleasure use only (SD&P)
SD& P and Business Use
Carriage of hazardous Goods
Airport Side Use Extension

Fleet insurance is a big investment and you need to weigh up the pros and cons of going green, but in the medium to longterm this is preferable.

Choosing the right package and motor fleet insurance company for you requires careful research and making sure that the solution ticks all the boxes for your fleet.
